Yamaguchi University Ranks 4th in Japan THE University Impact Rankings

Yamaguchi University has placed in the top 200 internationally in the UK’s Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Rankings 2019. THE is one of the leading organizations ranking the world’s universities, colleges and other higher education institutions. Rankings are based on the institutions’ accomplishments in a variety of performance indicators. Along with ranking overall in the 101st to 200th range internationally, Yamaguchi University is ranked 4th in Japan, 3rd among the national universities, and an outstanding 1st in the combined region of Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu.

The newly launched Impact Rankings are designed to assess each university’s contribution to society through the framework of SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals, set by the United Nations. THE considers knowledge transfer and contribution to society through innovation to be as important a mission as education and research at universities.

A survey was conducted for 11 out of the 17 goals and the overall combined ranking and rankings for each individual goal were announced.  Yamaguchi University presented accomplishments for SDG17, SDG3, SDG9, SDG12, SDG13 and SDG16, and placed highly in all six categories submitted.
