The 15th Joint Seminar with Kunsan National University, South Korea

From Tuesday, October 29, to Thursday, October 31, a delegation of seven faculty members from Kunsan National University, South Korea, visited our campus. The delegation, led by Vice President for Education and Innovation, Professor Hyojoong Kim, represents a university with which Yamaguchi University has a university-wide academic exchange agreement. On Wednesday, October 30, the 15th Joint Seminar between Yamaguchi University and Kunsan National University was held at the Kokorozashi Innovation Dojo on the Tokiwa Campus. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, the joint seminar continued online. This year marked the resumption of the in-person format after a five-year hiatus. The seminar focused on the themes of “Innovative Thermal Management and Sustainable Energy Technologies” and “Innovative Materials and Sustainable Engineering.” From Yamaguchi University, the seminar was attended by President Prof. Yukio Tanizawa; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Yoichi Yamada; Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Shinji Ikaruga; A member of Education and Research Council / Director of the Engineering Education Research Center, Prof. Masato Mikami; Director of the International Cooperation Office, Prof. Junhwan Song; Assoc. Prof. Koichiro Ienaga from the International Cooperation Office; and Director of Administration for the Faculty of Engineering, Ms. Akemi Ito. The event also welcomed over 100 participants, including 80 students, faculty members, and staff from the Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation and the Faculty of Engineering. Presentations were delivered by Yamaguchi University faculty, including Assoc. Prof. Ryo Shiraishi and Assoc. Prof. Arnaud Macadre from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Assoc. Prof. Hiroyuki Hara and Assoc. Prof. Azizul Moqsud from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Four faculty members from Kunsan National University also presented their research. This seminar provided a valuable opportunity for Yamaguchi University students to experience an international symposium firsthand and gain insights into cutting-edge research. It also served as a platform for faculty members from both universities to deepen mutual understanding of each other’s work. The delegation from Kunsan National University also paid courtesy visits during their stay. On the morning of October 30, they met with Dean Yamada of the Faculty of Engineering, where they exchanged information on university structures and student exchange programs, enhancing mutual understanding. In the afternoon, they visited President Tanizawa. The meeting was attended by Trustee/Vice President Prof. Qi-Wei Ge and Vice President for International Cooperation Prof. Yuri Ishii. Vice President Hyojoong Kim expressed gratitude for hosting this year’s seminar, and the discussion covered a range of topics, from President Tanizawa’s research field to the development of university novelty goods, leading to lively and engaging exchanges. The joint seminar alternates annually between the two universities and is scheduled to be held at Kunsan National University in South Korea next year. Yamaguchi University remains committed to promoting research exchange and strengthening the collaborative relationship between the two institutions.
