(2024/12/09)
On Monday, 28th October 2024, a delegation from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Malaysia (UTHM), one of Yamaguchi University’s international partner institutions, visited our campus. The delegation, led by Associate Professor Asmarashid Bin Ponniran, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, included five students paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Professor Shingo Yamaguchi from the Department of Information Science and Engineering and Associate Professor Toshikazu Samura from the Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing at Yamaguchi University also attended the meeting. Following the signing ceremony of the Interdepartmental Academic Exchange Agreement, the attendees engaged in discussions about future interdepartmental exchanges and activities under the Sakura Science Program, an international youth exchange initiative supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which served as the main purpose of this visit.
The delegation was invited to Yamaguchi University from Sunday, October 27, 2024, to Saturday, November 2, 2024, under the auspices of the Sakura Science Program. During their visit, they participated in the program titled “Learning and Experiencing Advanced Information Processing Technology through Remote Sensing and AI”, under the guidance of Professor Yamaguchi and Associate Professor Samura who played a central role in organizing the activities. The program included lectures and hands-on training on remote sensing data analysis, providing students with the opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technologies. Additionally, the group visited the KDDI Yamaguchi Satellite Communication Center, JAXA’s Regional Satellite Applications Center for Disaster Management, and Yamaguchi University’s Centre for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing. These visits offered valuable insights into satellite remote sensing and AI technologies, fostering lively discussions and active Q&A sessions.
This exchange strengthened collaboration between researchers and students from both universities. We are optimistic that this visit will pave the way for future joint research and talent development initiatives.
