On February 2, 2026, a delegation from Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (EJUST), Stellenbosch University (SU) in South Africa, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Kenya visited the Tokiwa Campus of Yamaguchi University. The delegation, consisting of 11 participants, included Prof. Sameh Nada, Dean of the School of Energy, Built Environment and Chemical Engineering at EJUST, faculty members from SU and JKUAT, and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The delegation first paid a courtesy call to Prof. Yuri Ishii, Vice President for International Cooperation, and Prof. Ikufumi Tomimoto, Senior Advisor to the Vice President for International Cooperation. The meeting began with Vice President Ishii providing an overview of Yamaguchi University and its current collaborative initiatives with the African region. This was followed by a lively exchange of views regarding the current development of intra-African university networks and potential areas for future academic exchange and collaboration.
Subsequently, the delegation visited the Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing. Following an introductory overview of the center presented by its Director, Prof. Masahiko Nagai, representatives from EJUST, SU, and JKUAT gave presentations on their respective research activities. The visit concluded with a tour of the facility, where the visitors deepened their understanding of cutting-edge remote sensing technologies and their practical applications.
Taking this visit as a catalyst, Yamaguchi University aims to further strengthen its educational and research partnerships with leading African universities in engineering fields—including satellite remote sensing—and promote the continued development of a robust international academic network.
