On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, Professor Emeritus David Alexander from the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction at University College London (UCL), a partner institution with which our university has an inter-university Academic Exchange Agreement, paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. From our university, Professor Song, Director of the International Exchange Support Office, Professor Nishigata, the research representative for the priority partner university initiative, and Professor Takahiro Osawa of the Research Center for Advanced Science and Innovation also attended the meeting, during which both parties exchanged views on promoting joint research initiatives.

Professor Emeritus David Alexander, who has served as a visiting professor at several Japanese universities including our own, visited our university from Monday, May 18 to Wednesday, May 20, 2026. During his stay, the YU-UCL Public Lecture Series was held, hosted by the Center for Research and Application of Satellite Remote Sensing and the Center for Regional Resilience Research at Yamaguchi University. Under the theme “Disaster Risk and Emergency Management in a Changing World: Rethinking Disaster Risk and Emergency Management,” the lecture series helped faculty members and students of our university deepen their understanding of modern disaster risks.

Through this exchange, it is expected that international joint research between both universities will be strongly promoted, leading to the construction of a sustainable academic network.
