(Posted on July 23, 2026)

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, a delegation from the National University of Timor-Leste—including President Joviano Antonio da Costa, Vice President Cristóvão dos Reis, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Alfredo Guterres da Silva Simões, Administrative Staff Member Fatmawati Pilian, and JICA CADEGRADE Project Specialist Kenichiro Komatsu—visited our university.

The delegation first paid a courtesy call on President Tanizawa at the Yoshida Campus. During the meeting, they engaged in a lively exchange of views on the future development of educational and research collaboration between the two universities. Afterward, they enjoyed a cordial conversation over lunch.

They then moved on to the Tokiwa Campus for a courtesy call on Dean Suzuki of the Faculty of Engineering.

During the meeting, they looked back on the long history of collaboration between the two universities in education, research, and disaster prevention in line with the JICA project. They also engaged in a lively exchange of views on the further development of the Graduate School of Engineering at the National University of Timor-Leste—which was established two years ago and has already produced eight master’s degree graduates—and on strengthening future collaboration.

Following the courtesy call, a gathering was held with international students and short-term trainees from Timor Leste enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering. During the gathering, participants exchanged views on the students’ research activities and daily life in Japan, making for a meaningful exchange in a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout.

Taking this visit as an opportunity, we will strive to promote further exchanges to deepen our educational and research collaboration with the National University of Timor Leste.
