2024.03.29
On March 4~8, 2024, two students and two faculties participated in the department’s first short-term training program in Kenya. In the first half of the training, they visited the University of Nairobi, and in the second half, they conducted fieldwork as part of a workshop coordinated by a local company.
This short-term training program was implemented as the first step in expanding university-wide exchange in the “Project for Strengthening the University’s Global Expansion Capabilities” (2020-2024) between the Joint Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Yamaguchi University and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Nairobi.
During the visit to the University of Nairobi, the students and faculties visited the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), with which the Faculty hopes to deepen exchanges in the future, and paid a courtesy call on the president. During their visit, they also had the opportunity to deepen exchanges with local students.
During the fieldwork, the students and falculties visited suburban communities and interviewed collaborators about their pre-prepared interests. They were able to learn about the actual situation and the opinions of the people involved that they did not understand in the previous study.
During their stay, they also experienced local food culture and visited the Kenya Center of the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, the JICA Kenya Office, and national parks. The students who participated in this training were able to experience Kenyan culture and recognize the connection between Japan and Kenya.
