On Friday, July 26, 2024, with the cooperation of Yamaguchi Junior High School affiliated to the Faculty of Education, Yamaguchi University, a workshop was held to visualize thoughts about the future, planned mainly by Ms. Ayaka Imafuji, a second-year student in the Faculty of Global and Science Studies.
Approximately 70 students from the art and technology clubs of Yamaguchi Junior High School participated in the workshop, and they were challenged to give shape to their latent thoughts through making things, and to verbalize and explain them to those around them. Ms. Imafuji and Yoshida from Yamaguchi University participated as facilitators and supported the students’ work.
This event was planned by Ms. Imafuji, who felt that there were few opportunities for junior high and high school students to think about their future, materialize those thoughts, and share them with others. The junior high school students who participated commented that it was a good opportunity because they don’t usually have many opportunities to put their thoughts about the future into words, and that it was fun to think while making things.
Comments from Ms. Imafuji, who planned the workshop: “I spent about half a year preparing this workshop, wondering how to best convey the ideas to junior high school students in an easy-to-understand way, and how to use the knowledge I had learned up until now. Practicing many times and coming up with ideas for the workshop was a valuable experience for me. I would like to thank the many people who supported me and helped me. In the future, I would like to hold a new workshop that takes into consideration creating mechanisms that make it easy to talk when sharing ideas.”
*This event was held with the support of the Yamaguchi University Fund.
