Ms. Yuko Watanabe (4th year), Ms. Yuki Masuda (4th year), Ms. Yuwa Goto (1st year), and Dr. Hiroaki Sugino from Faculty of Global and Science Studies participated as organizers in the “Future Community Connections with a Chain of ‘Want to Get Involved'” meeting held in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture from Saturday, October 5th to Sunday, October 6th. In order to create a flow of people beyond the boundaries of the region and solve regional and local issues in an era of population decline, students who usually study at the Yoshida Campus in Yamaguchi City went to Hida City, a field outside the prefecture, to gather information on the findings of relational population research and on the practice of inter-regional exchange. On the second day, they participated in “Hidasuke,” a project that creates exchanges and support that go beyond the boundaries of the region, where the “problems” faced by the region and the “help” of participants circulate, and learned about examples of solutions to regional issues that could be applied in Yamaguchi City and the agricultural, mountain, and fishing villages of Yamaguchi Prefecture.
