We held a New Year’s “Seven Herbs Rice Porridge” social gathering with international students
2025.01.17
On Tuesday, January 7th, an event was held in Room 303 of the Faculty of Global and Science Studies’ Communication Lounge to celebrate the New Year’s Day of Seven Herbs, January 7th, where students could interact with international students while eating “nanakusa-gayu,” rice balls, mochi, and other foods.
This event was organized by the faculty’s official club “FGSSER,” which aims to promote interactions with Japanese students and international students, “Palet’s,” a club that creates connections with people outside the faculty, and “LinguaLink,” an independent activity club that provides students and faculty with opportunities for discussion and dialogue in English, as one of the projects to deepen interactions between Japanese students and international students. While enjoying newly harvested rice grown by farmers who they met through PBL activities, the participants asked what “nanakusa-gayu” is, and discussed how to make rice balls, the types of fillings, and ways to arrange mochi to taste. Various languages were spoken at the venue, with food as the starting point for interaction.
The event began during the lunch break, and was a short one before afternoon classes began, but it was a lively exchange event typical of the Faculty of Global and Science Studies, and one of the international students who participated said, “Next time, I’d like to hold an event to introduce the food culture of my own country,” so it seems that these delicious and fun events will continue to take place in the future.
