{"id":604,"date":"2025-10-16T09:52:28","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T00:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ds27i1.cc.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp\/~fgssweb\/en\/?p=604"},"modified":"2025-10-16T11:07:35","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T02:07:35","slug":"31-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ds27i1.cc.yamaguchi-u.ac.jp\/~fgssweb\/en\/info\/31-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Collaboration between FGSS and Shanghai Dianji University through GPBL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">2025.10.16<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the Faculty of Global and Science Studies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Shanghai Dianji University to collaborate on an initiative known as Global Project-Based Learning (GPBL). This program builds on the existing Project-Based Learning (PBL) framework by expanding the scope from local to global, incorporating international perspectives and collaboration.<br \/>First proposed in 2023 by the then-Dean, Professor Manabu Sugii, and with the full support of the current Dean, Professor Ueda Masumi, GPBL seeks to enhance FGSS graduation projects by engaging foreign students in key activities such as research, fieldwork, and prototyping, with the goal of producing outcomes of global significance.<br \/>Given the complexity of implementing a full-scale GPBL program, it was decided to phase in the initiative gradually starting in 2025. Under the leadership of Professor Christian Cruz (Visual Communication Design), the project was launched as part of an existing design-focused PBL activity. Its aim was to establish a comprehensive framework for assessing complementary skills, one that could serve as a shared basis of evaluation for both universities.<br \/>As part of this effort, in June Professor Cruz led four students to Shanghai, where they participated in Shanghai Dianji University\u2019s International Design Month*, taking part in a design workshop aligned with FGSS graduation project themes. In September (16th\u201318th), students and faculty from Shanghai Dianji University, led by Professor Zhang Ting, visited the Faculty of Global and Science Studies to continue the collaboration. During this visit, Professor Zhang delivered a well-structured and insightful lecture on the history of Contemporary Chinese Design (1949\u2013present). Students from both institutions also worked together through a series of lectures on Design Thinking, complemented by hands-on project activities.<br \/>Discussions during the visit also explored ways to strengthen and expand the partnership between the two universities. The first stage of this collaborative project will run until its conclusion in February 2026.
