RESEARCH

Assistant Professor Kosugi obtained a Ph.D from Japan Women’s University. One of her research fields is partial differential equation. Her research purpose is to construct a mathematical model representing shrinking and stretching motions of the elastic curve. In this research she considers the initial and boundary value problems for the beam equation. The beam equation is a partial differential equation whose principal term contains the spatial fourth-order derivative. She proved the existence and uniqueness of several initial and boundary value problems based on the functional analysis. Through the analysis of stationary and obstacle problems, she aims to construct a mathematical formulation that characterizes the behavior of elastic materials. She is also interested in improving the accuracy of
numerical calculations for these problems.
