The 15th Joint Seminar with Kunsan National University, South Korea

From Monday, July 28 to Wednesday, July 30, Yamaguchi University welcomed a delegation from the College of Engineering and the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Chungbuk National University, South Korea, and held the 8th Joint Seminar.
Academic exchange between Yamaguchi University and Chungbuk National University began around 2000, leading to the signing of an inter-faculty agreement in 2001 and further developing into a university-level agreement in 2016. Since 2014, the two universities have co-hosted the Joint Seminar annually, aiming to promote joint research opportunities, expand exchanges among young faculty members, and encourage student mobility.
The Chungbuk delegation was led by Professor Jeong-Hun Won, Vice Dean of the College of Engineering, and Professor Moon Hee Kang, Vice Dean of the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, together with Professor Mihye Kim, Associate Professor Haksung Lee, Assistant Professor Bogyu Lim, and Assistant Professor Ayeong Byeon. From Yamaguchi University, Prof. Yoichi Yamada, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Shinji Ikaruga, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Masato Mikami, A member of Education and Research Council / Director of the Engineering Education Research Center, Prof. Junhwan Song, Director of the International Cooperation Office welcomed the guests.
On July 28, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to President Professor Yukio Tanizawa. Discussions covered the history and future prospects of collaboration, as well as innovative educational programs at both universities. The Chungbuk delegation expressed strong interest in our university’s efforts to develop DX talent in the humanities, as well as in the newly launched School of Collaborative Community Innovation, which emphasizes interdisciplinary learning. In turn, Chungbuk University introduced its innovative student recruitment system, which allows students to choose their majors after enrollment.
On July 29, the Joint Seminar was held at the Kokorozashi Innovation Dojo on the Tokiwa Campus. Researchers from both universities presented their latest findings, followed by lively discussions. A luncheon meeting and campus tour further deepened mutual exchange.
The seminar reaffirmed the strong academic partnership between Yamaguchi University and Chungbuk National University and provided a valuable opportunity to explore future collaboration in student and faculty exchange, joint research, and innovative educational initiatives. Yamaguchi University will continue to strengthen this partnership and contribute to the advancement of international academic exchange and education.
