Special Lecture by UC Berkeley’s Dr. Bodhinanda Chandra

(2025/9/1)

On July 25, 2025, Dr. Bodhinanda Chandra, a research fellow specializing in geotechnical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, delivered a special lecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Yamaguchi University. The lecture, titled “Slope Stability and Landslides: From Limit Equilibrium to Advanced Numerical Modeling,” was hosted by Associate Professor Azizul Moqsud from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Chandra’s talk traced the evolution of slope stability analysis, from traditional limit equilibrium methods to the latest numerical modeling techniques. Using vivid case studies and real-world applications, he emphasized how modern computational tools are helping to mitigate damage, especially in areas prone to seismic activity and extreme weather events. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session where students and attendees engaged with Dr. Chandra, asking him questions about his insights.

Yamaguchi University will continue to provide opportunities for active research exchange in the future.
