動物系統分類学。特に、クマムシ類とコウラムシ類を中心に、海の砂のすきまに棲息する肉眼で見えないほど小さな動物（メイオファウナ/メイオベントス）の研究を進めている。

Field of interest: Zoosystematics of marine meiobenthos.
Marine meiobenthos is a term for microscopic organisms that are found from the seafloor environment. The species diversity of these organisms remains largely unexplored. He is an expert on marine tardigrades and loriciferans.
