YAMAGUCHI UNIVERSITY

Yamaguchi University Fund

Message from the President

Yamaguchi University marked the 200th anniversary of its establishment in 2015, celebrating its origins in Yamaguchi Kodo, a private school founded in 1815 by Ueda Hoyo, a feudal clansman of the Choshu Province in the late Edo Period. As a comprehensive university boasting nine faculties and eight graduate schools, with 8,700 undergraduate students and 1,600 graduate students, we are committed to education, research, and regional contribution, working hard to develop along with our local community. National universities have been called on to reform rapidly in light of declining birth rates, increasing globalization, and Japan’s financial problems. And with regional revitalization adopted as a policy, regional universities are expected to be the core for this revitalization.
With globalization, innovation, and regional revitalization as keywords, we have embarked on a university reform toward the next 200 years. In April 2015, we established the Faculty of Global and Science Studies and reorganized humanities and social science-related Faculties (Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Education, & Faculty of Economics). The next year, in April 2016 we established the Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation as part of the reorganization of science-related graduate schools (Graduate School of Science and Engineering & Graduate School of Agriculture) and the established the Graduate School of Education’s Division of Advanced Professional Practice in School Education.
In an effort to support student learning, the Yamaguchi University Fund will focus on scholarship and tuition fee awards, assistance for international exchange, study abroad for students with financial difficulty, and support for incoming international students. It will contribute to the cultivation of globally minded human resources who are active regionally and internationally.
We are able to continue this assistance for our students only because of your generous ongoing support. Thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding of the Yamaguchi University Fund.
