YAMAGUCHI UNIVERSITY

Announcement of the Tuition Fee Revision Decision Effective from April 2026

Yamaguchi University has officially decided to revise the tuition fees for students enrolling in April 2026 and thereafter.
As indicated in the President’s Message announced on September 25, the severe financial situation facing national universities, including our own, did not arise just recently, but has been ongoing for many years. Yamaguchi University has worked to address this by increasing revenue and controlling expenses. However, we are seeing significant changes in society, marked by the recent rapid rise in costs, particularly electricity charges and salary increases. Considering this, we have determined that relying solely on existing financial resources, such as government operational grants, would be insufficient to maintain, improve, equip, and expand the educational environment. Continuing as we are would ultimately disadvantage the students, and we can no longer postpone addressing these issues. We kindly ask for your understanding regarding the university’s principles and decision.

1. Overview of the Tuition Fee Revision
The tuition fees will be revised as follows for all undergraduate course students enrolling from April 2026 and thereafter (including international students), and for students enrolling in Master’s Programs or Professional Degree Programs from April 2027 and thereafter. This revision will not apply to currently enrolled students. Admission fees and examination fees will not be revised.

Program Type Current Fee Revised Fee  Date of Tuition Revision
Undergraduate Programs (Faculties/Schools) 535,800 yen 642,960 yen Students enrolling from April 2026 onward
Graduate School Master’s and Professional Degree Programs 535,800 yen 642,960 yen Students enrolling from April 2027 onward
Graduate School Doctoral Programs (including Medicine and Veterinary Medicine Doctoral Courses) 535,800 yen Current rate applies

*Note: Transfer students will be subject to the revision in line with the academic year of their cohort. (For third-year transfers: effective from April 2028 enrollment. For second-year transfers to the School of Medicine, Department of Medicine: effective from April 2027 enrollment.)

2. Financial Support Measures

To ensure that students with strong motivation are not deprived of the opportunity to study at this university due to financial circumstances, tuition fee exemptions will continue to apply to the revised fees in the same proportion as current reductions. Based on the existing tuition payment and exemption application procedures, we will also strive to minimize the burden of the application process, preventing redundant procedures or overlooked applications.

3. Use of the Revised Tuition Fees

We are committed to ensuring that the revised tuition fee amounts will contribute to enhancing the quality of the education and research environment throughout students’ enrollment. To this end, we will thoroughly review requests received to date through student questionnaires, briefings, and opinion submission forms, and systematically prioritize and implement improvements. In carrying out these improvements, we will pay close attention to student feedback and respect their requests. Moving forward, information regarding the enhancements made using the revised tuition fees, including the details of the improvements and funds used, will be disclosed in a timely and appropriate manner through the university’s website and other channels to students, members of the university community, and society at large.
As stated in the President’s Message announced on September 25, we sincerely hope that through diverse learning, academic exploration, and new encounters with friends and faculty during their time here, students will graduate proud of Yamaguchi University and become indispensable members of society, acting with conviction and confidence throughout their lives. We sincerely hope that this decision will serve as the foundation for your brilliant future and Yamaguchi University’s continued advancement. We respectfully ask once again for your understanding regarding the university’s principles and decision.
