Curriculum
Chemistry Course Classes
The Chemistry Course curriculum is structured to allow students to enroll in shared classes in the Department of Biology and Chemistry while learning the fundamentals of chemistry and mastering the ability of applying them.
In the first semester of the first year, students enroll in Introduction to Biology and Introduction to Chemistry as departmental common subjects along with general education courses to master fundamentals. In the second semester, students enroll in Biology/Chemistry Seminar, Inorganic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry I and Introduction to Physics as departmental common subjects. In the second year, students enroll in Molecular Biology, Biological Chemistry and Biophysical Chemistry as departmental common subjects and begin to take specialized Chemistry Course classes. In the second semester of the second year and the entire third year, students further deepen their understanding of chemistry by enrolling in a broader range of specialized courses. In Organic Chemistry Experiments, Analytical Chemistry Experiments, Physical Chemistry Experiments and Materials Chemistry Experiments and Practicums, students acquire scientific methods and attitudes. In the final, fourth year, students are divided into five fields (material analysis chemistry, functional materials chemistry, solid materials chemistry, functional organic chemistry and organic reaction chemistry), where they concentrate on special research (graduation research) under the direction of an instructor. During this year, students will learn the pleasure of independent research by delving into cutting edge chemistry.
