Experimental Farm
Summary
This attached farm is located on the Yoshida Campus is covered with paddy fields, fields, orchards, forestes, and grazing land spreads out on the site of about 28ha, and the major feature is that the farms form one basin with sattered ponds. In here, education and research are carried out using fields such as agricultural land and orchards, and it also functions as a place for environmental education and food and agriculture education in nearby kindergartens and elementary schools.
The main activities at the attached farm are educational ectivities, research activities, production activities, and community contributions. In educational activities is provide a place for student’s research activities such as graduation thesis and master’s thesis, as well as farm training and animal husbandry training for undergraduate students. It is also used as a plae for student training in the Faculty of Education. In our research activities, in addition to crops such as paddy rice and wheet, we are conducting varous basic and applied research in the fields of crop sciences, fruit horticulture, and animal science, which are the basis of agricultural production such as cultivation of fruit trees such as grapes and peaches. In production activities, we produce paddy rice, olericulture(vegetables), peaches/grapes, flower seedlings, etc., and sell them mainly on the three campuses of Yamaguchi University in 2008, we started selling Yamaguchi University brand sake “”Choshu Gakusha”” based on sake rice grown in farm paddy fields. In addition, we are planning and implementing food and agriculture education for local school children and kindergarten children and open lectures for the general public. The number of visitors to the farm for the rich nature of the attached farm is increasing year by year, and currently, a total of 1,000 perople are accepted anuually.
