2023 Student Exchange Support Program(Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan)

The research program entitled “Initiative Program for Information Science
Research Using International Network for Biological Resources in Tropical Environments”

Program Summary

The program involves practical studies focusing on tropical organism resources, achieved through partnerships with host university students in Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. It also supports a deeper exchange among students by improving presentation skills in English, including specialized and conversational English, and providing opportunities for experiencing different cultures.

  • ・63 days or more and less than 90 days (planned) – 10 students (80,000 yen scholarship over a 31-day period, additional 10,000 yen residence assistance) 

    ・Only those who have been recommended by the university to which they belong.

     

    ※ When Yamaguchi University (hereinafter,this is called YU) accepts exchange students 

    of this program,they are expected to be “YUSS program students”.

Qualifications and Requirements

1. All documents must be submitted by the submission deadline.

2. GPA on the JASSO) of greater than 2.30 for the previous year

If GPA on the JASSO cannot be provided, please provide written statements (any format) to prove that your grades were exemplary and equivalent to a GPA on the JASSO of 2.30.

※We will confirm transcripts and written statements, and then inform you of our decision.

3. Program participation is limited to those with residency status. Any type of residence status is acceptable for those participating in programs shorter than three months.

※We will not cover fees related to obtaining a residency status.

4. Participants must complete their studies at their home school.

5. If Participants receive other scholarships together with this scholarship for the study in Japan, the Total amount of  monthly stipend of other scholarships should not exceed the amount of this scholarship (JPY 80,000 per month).

6. Participants cannot receive any other scholarship from the Japanese government or JASSO together with this scholarship.

7. Participants must be admitted by YU according to stipulations for student exchange (research laboratory protocols or notice of confirmation), even if it does not take the form of an agreement.

8. After go back home university, the student who can get some academic credits.

 

How to apply for this program

Please submit the following documents to Educational Affairs Section, Faculty of Agriculture, by the deadline below, after making arrangements with the university.

    ※If a GPA on the JASSO cannot be provided, please provide written statements (any format) that prove your grades were exemplary and equivalent to a GPA on the JASSO of 2.30.
    We will contact the Admissions Faculty Member after confirming the eligibility requirements based on the submitted documents.

Other notes

  1. Visa
    • JASSO-SS Students should get a “Temporary Visitor Visa”.
      Please prepare a “Acceptance Letter”, “Invitation Letter”, “Itinerary” and “Guarantee” which are issued by YU, and also other necessary documents (passport, financial certificate and so on), and then please apply to the Japanese Embassy or the Consulate.
    • It may take a long time to issue a visa, so please apply for your visa as soon as possible.
    • Regarding visa details, an applicant should inquire at the Japanese Embassy or the Consulate by himself/herself.
  2. Insurance and medical Care
    • Before coming to Japan, you are required to purchase travel insurance against accident or injury. If you do not purchase travel insurance, you cannot be accepted into the program. YU will not take any responsibility at all for any illness or injury during your stay in Japan. Please get treatment for health issues such as cavities before visiting Japan. If you see a doctor or get a prescription in Japan, you must pay a large amount of medical expenses.
    • The university which send students will ensure that all participating students have suitable travel insurance to cover cancellation, personal health and possessions.
  3. Others
    • Travel to Japan: Participants must inform to YU immediately after he/she bought the ticket. Participants should come to Shin-Yamaguchi station by themselves in principle. If you use an aircraft arriving at Fukuoka International Airport (YU’s nearest international airport), please inform the aircraft’s arrival date and time.
    • Accommodation and transportation from Shin-Yamaguchi station: YU will provide.
    • The voltage of Japan (Yamaguchi) is 100V and 60Hz, and the shape of the plug is type A. Please bring a transformer and a conversion plug if you need them.
